Healthy, Natural, Every Day Detoxification
Usually when you hear the word “detox” it’s in association with an extreme 30-day cleanse or unimaginable diet involving vinegar and cayenne pepper. Detoxification has become a hot topic as more and more bodies are afflicted by what Eastern medicine calls “stagnation” or simply put, a buildup of toxins in the body that exceeds the body’s ability to process and eliminate them.
Actually, the human body is naturally equipped with quite a miraculous detoxification system that cleanses and renews the body on a regular basis. Your gastrointestinal, urinary, respiratory, lymphatic, skin and dermal systems are always hard at work processing and eliminating toxins. The need for additional detoxification is not because one or all of these systems isn’t doing their job, but because we often overload them. In our modern lifestyle toxins are ingested and absorbed through the skin almost constantly. Sugar, nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, chemicals, pesticides, preservatives and other toxins in the air, ground and water are impossible to avoid.
While detoxification is certainly a good thing, the extreme regimens I mentioned above are often harder on the body (and mind) than they are good. Luckily there are many things you can do on a regular basis to help your body continuously detoxify.
Start with the obvious: avoid using products or eating foods with toxins in them. A clean diet based on whole fruits, veggies and grains and a natural lifestyle will help prevent the buildup of toxins in the first place. Then take proactive steps to help your body detoxify more efficiently. Drink more water, get at least 6 hours of sleep every night, exercise and sweat on a regular basis, eat more fiber-rich raw foods and pay attention to getting a good variety of nutrients, especially the ones that help cleanse your body such as vitamins C and E.
There’s no reason to fret over not being able to commit to that 30-day-detox your friends keep talking about. All of these proactive steps and beneficial dietary additions can be introduced on a daily basis to gently help cleanse and detoxify your entire body.
