6 Reasons You Should Be Juicing

An important part of eating organic is finding the types of meals that fit your lifestyle the best.  When I started juicing my organic fruits and vegetables, I found a great fit for my healthy lifestyle. Juicing is a simple and proven way to eat organic, and it just might be for you. Here are six reasons you should be juicing:

1. Reduce Produce Waste

Organic produce takes longer to grow and requires more manpower than conventional agriculture, so it often costs more. At a higher cost it’s beneficial to get the most out of your food. You can juice many fruits and veggies in their entirety, so you won’t end up throwing away any part of your produce. It always makes me sad when I have to dispose of a pile of fruit and veggie odds and ends, but efficient juicing has made me (and Mother Earth) much happier.

2. Enjoy a Meal on the Go

Juicing can take between 15 and 25 minutes from start to finish. That’s not too bad as far as meal preparation goes. But you can’t take a steak and potatoes on the bus with you without getting some pretty weird looks. Pour your juice straight into your carrying container and you’ve got a delicious meal to go.

3. Get More of the Essential Nutrients

If you are very physically active, you may find it difficult to get the desired amount of vegetables in your diet. Instead of eating trough-loads of broccoli, a quick glass of vegetable juice can deliver your daily dose.

4. Give Your Digestive System a Break

After years of eating less-than-perfect diets, our bodies have trouble absorbing all of the healthy nutrients from vegetables. Juicing helps your body by breaking down foods before they reach your digestive system. This allows your body to absorb more essential nutrients.

5. Get More Energy

Eating the right amounts of the right foods is essential to feeling energized throughout the day. A glass of juice can give you plenty of energy. Often times a solid serving of fruits and veggies is enough to satisfy your hunger and energize you.  Many people find that eating several smaller meals like this during a day helps to maintain energy levels better than 2 or 3 large meals.

6. Eat Fruits and Veggies You Normally Wouldn’t

If you’ve never really gotten into beets, carrots or broccoli, now is the time. Juicing is the perfect opportunity to mix in new fruits and veggies with your favorites to create a unique drink. The results can surprise you. Foods you didn’t enjoy before can blend with other fruits and veggies to create a new flavor that you may love.

It’s important not just to eat vegetables, but also to eat a wide variety. If you want to start slow, try adding spinach or avocado to fruit-based smoothies, or just add a new veggie into a mix you know you enjoy. Juicing may just be the perfect fit for your organic diet.
