Full Circle Faces: Ben Cory – Produce Buyer
What brought you to Full Circle?
I had been working in the organic produce home delivery business for several years, with Pioneer Organics and with Door to Door, so when I moved back to Seattle three years ago (from Boulder, Colorado), it was a natural place to look for work.
How does Full Circle’s mission speak to you?
I believe we need to change our Food System and how we grow and eat food. Conventional farming and processed food are not the direction I believe we should be moving in. I believe in a more positive approach.
Goals for Full Circle?
To bring the best possible produce from our various farmers to our customers and to do that in a way that insures high quality. Another goal is to bring that food to a wider audience, to make sure everyone has access to safe and healthy food.
Favorite Food Memory?
My mom didn’t like to cook, so I haven’t that many great food memories, but now my favorite thing is when our box arrives and my 3 year old son greets it with apple, apple, apple. I really enjoy grilling for my family.
Favorite Full Circle grown Produce?
It has to be carrots. Our family eats a lot of carrots, and Full Circle’s are the best. In our home we mainly eat them raw or juice them, but they also go into stir frys.
I’m a cyclist, and also play rock music. Mainly guitar these days, but in the past I played drums in bands.
Last book read?
I like reading history. The book I just finished was War Angels, the story of the battle of Gettysburg. Apparently I like war books, too, since the one before was Chicken Hawk, about Viet Nam.
Ice Cream and desserts, although since I’m allergic to Chocolate, it’s usually vanilla.
Personal History with Farming?
No farming experience other than our home garden. We grow Strawberries, herbs and plums.
