About the producer
In 2011, John Beaver and Erica Perez opened Oaktown Spice Shop in Oakland, CA after nearly 2 years of planning and preparation. John had worked in a family-run spice shop as a teen, and now, surrounded by a vibrant food community, they decided it was the right time and place to source, freshly grind and share the world’s finest spices.
Since then, the business has grown to a full team of employees, two retail shop locations and a growing number of restaurants, bakeries, chocolatiers and candy makers who source their spices from John and Erica. They focus on sourcing the best-tasting version of each spice as well as creating their own special blends such as Grand Lake Shake and Oaktown Sweet Heat BBQ Rub.
