About the producer
Childhood friends Dan Schaefer and Pat Barron founded Native Pet in 2017 after noticing shortcomings in the pet supplement industry. They decided to build something different, developing their own formulations entirely in-house with one of the 40 Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionists in the United States.
Native Pet skips the soft chew format favored by most competitors, opting instead for powders, oils, and what the company calls the first air-dried chicken chew. The gentler manufacturing process preserves ingredient quality without high-pressure extrusion or molding. Dan and Pat set a limit of five inactive ingredients per product and chose whole foods like wild-caught salmon, grass-fed beef, and organic chicken over artificial flavorings. Before any product reaches shelves, it goes through tastiness testing with dogs, a step the founders consider non-negotiable. After all, if the dogs themselves don't approve, neither do Dan and Pat.
