About the producer
Nan McEvoy founded McEvoy Ranch in 1990 after falling in love with Tuscan olive oil and discovering a former dairy farm in Petaluma. She imported a thousand seedlings from Italy, determined to produce the same quality in California that she'd experienced abroad.
The 550-acre property has been producing extra virgin olive oil for over three decades, with only 10% of the land planted to maintain balance with the surrounding ecosystem. The orchards follow organic regulations, and the ranch produces its own compost from olive oil production byproducts to enrich the soil and reduce waste.
Nan passed away in 2015 at 95, and her son, Nion McEvoy, took over as owner and CEO. Recently, his three adult children — Nion Jr., Griffin, and Helen — have started taking on bigger roles at the ranch, making them the third generation of McEvoy's to leave their mark in the California olive growing industry.
