My Full Circle Order – Week of June 19th “Easy as Pie”
Every week I share with you the contents of my Full Circle Farm-to-Table order. Eating fresh and organic food weekly has never been easier, but it does take a bit of planning. On Friday, when I receive my email from Full Circle letting me know what’s coming in my box I begin planning for a few meals that I can make throughout the week. Hopefully this will inspire you to make the most of your Farm-to-Table order, or at the least give you a good recipe or two to try out.
When I say pie, I mean pizza pie. I’ve never been much of a baker and the thought of creating a crust seems as pointless as making your own pizza dough (which I tried to mixed reviews), especially since Essential Baking’s pizza crust is awesome and easily added to your order. It makes great bread sticks and an awesome Stromboli. I’d thought I’d take it into summer with a grilled pizza recipe this week.
A nice bed of coals, a well greased grill, thin crust, some tin foil for the indirect heat and the perfect pizza, with just a bit of smokey flavor. To add to the spicy side I also added some green garlic to my order. After reading about the nutritional benefits in our sister blog Good Food Health I’m sold. In fact a simple green garlic pesto seems like a winner for this pizza too.
Along with the pesto, some other delicious goodies in my order will make great topping for my pie—chard (didn’t see that one coming did you?), escarole, and thinly shaved red beets just lightly pickled. Of course I’ll have to make a pepperoni and cheese one too, and I might throw in a jar of Cucina Fresca’s new pesto sauce for a straight cheese pizza, but seriously, why not take advantage of this summer bounty in every way we can?
The other thing in the box I look forward to using is the green beans. I want to make a tender, yet crunchy green bean salad with cherry tomatoes, shallots and fresh dill. With these additions and a few staples my order looks wonderful.
My base order with escarole substituted for apples:
Baby Bok Choy
Salad Mix (Cut Greens)
And my Green Grocery additions:
I think this should lead to a few fun and creative dishes throughout the week. I’ll do some experimenting over the weekend and come back to you with the best way to grill pizza and some tasty toppings and combinations to make the most of the season’s fresh ingredients.
Until then, enjoy the sun and don’t forget—to be well, eat well.
