The Alaska Sausage Company was founded by Herbert Eckmann in 1963. Herbert moved to Anchorage from Frankfurt, Germany in 1961 and got a job as a sausage maker. He recognized that Anchorage hunters had nowhere to bring game meat to be cut, processed, and packaged, so the Alaska Sausage Company was born.
