In 2011, John Beaver and Erica Perez opened Oaktown Spice Shop in
Oakland, CA after nearly 2 years of planning and preparation. John had
worked in a family-run spice shop as a teen, and now, surrounded by a
vibrant food community, they decided it was the right time and place to
source, freshly grind and share the world’s finest spices.

then, the business has grown to a full team of employees, two retail
shop locations and a growing number of restaurants, bakeries,
